So here we are, December 30th. It’s hard to believe that tomorrow marks the end of 2014. I am left reflecting on the good things, the bad things, and the many accomplishments and changes that I have experienced this year. But, that is a post for a different day (like January 1st – stay tuned!). This is a post about the trials and tribulations of being on a diet during the holidays.
It is also hard to believe that we have almost made it through another holiday season. Thanksgiving came and went in a flash and it hardly even felt like Christmas so it’s even harder to believe it’s over. I’ll be honest, because the internet is not a place for lies (ha ha). I fell of the wagon more than a few times this holiday season and despite my best efforts, may have thrown the diet to the wayside a time or two.
I am happy to say that I avoided sugar like the plague and aside from one very small bite of Landon’s birthday cake, I managed to be completely “sweet” free this holiday season (unless jello shots count as sweets… do jello shots count?) I am human, and humans deserve a treat every once and a while, especially when so successful at adhearing to a strict diet – am I right? So I chose my “cheat” and that cheat was a croissant with chicken salad and Italian bread dipped in Paleo stew.
Okay, so maybe the alcohol and energy drinks also count as cheats. Wow, I didn’t realize until now that I cheated on my diet so much. Oops – good thing a New Year is a perfect time to get back on track!
I spent Christmas Eve surrounded by the entire Tibbs clan (minus Abrye in Australia) and our favorite family-friends, the DeRushas. What is better on Christmas Eve than being surrounded by people you love, good food, and adorable babies? Nothing, I tell you!
Then on Christmas Day, I rode up to the Boundary Waters with my sister for a weekend adventure with the fam in the north woods. A remote cabin and no telephone service or TV made for a very relaxing and peaceful family vacation (during the moments that the kiddos were not arguing!) The cabin may have included too much booze and laughter (except you can’t really have too much laughter) but it was a great chance to get away and spend time enjoying family and mother earth.
We ate very well on vacation – with the meals being 90% paleo. So I don’t feel so bad about the few cheats that I had. My only regret is the cheating on my exercise. I’ll be honest; I don’t remember the last day that I worked out. Probably Saturday….. the 21st. I did get a little bit of exercise at the cabin, dragging my nephew up the sledding hill but it has been too long since I have hit the gym. I could have gone running at the cabin with my dad but I forgot my running shoes at home and (yes, more honesty) I decided I am too big of a wimp to run in the cold & snow. I’m just not that advanced yet!
I am happy to say that I am getting back on track and hit 6 miles on the elliptical after work today. Cardio = the best + worst kind of pain! Here’s to my 2015 goal #keepmoving

Until next time –
